Rain Rain GO AWAY!!

We've had some VERY HEAVY rains this week in Dhaka - causing more floods to the already ravished Bangladesh.

I took this picture from the car, and it's pretty dark outside. The water was splashing up on the undercarriage of most of the cars as we were driving on the street. (AND the rain continued for about another hour.) The streets are very well paved to begin with - after the rainy season, the roads are pitted with deep holes. When the water comes up like this - there's no way to tell when you are driving over one or not.

During the rainy season - people fall into open manholes and get seriously injured or die. I used to think - how could people NOT see the open hole?! Well - if the street is covered with water, who CAN tell? A friend actually fell into a manhole during his first week in Bangladesh. Luckily, he's over 6 feet tall, but even then, he fell in all the way up to his armpits and was banged up pretty badly. =(
